Students who are not inside their classroom before the second bell rings will be marked Tardy. Students who arrive 30 minutes after the start of the period will be marked Absent for that period. Tardies cannot be excused under any circumstances. Every period a student is tardy counts against their attendance for our “Rule of 85” eligibility calculation, so it is critical that all students do everything they can to be in class on time.
Tardy and “Out of Class” Consequences: Tardy = Lunch Detention
If a student is Tardy to class or out of class without permission between periods 0 and 4, the teacher will mark them Tardy in our school attendance database. The teacher may encourage the student to take a tardy slip as a reminder to attend a 15-minute* lunch detention. Tardy students must immediately report to detention within 5 minutes of the beginning of their lunch period to serve their detention. If a student is tardy or out of class without permission after lunch (periods 5-6), their assigned lunch detention will be the following school day. Parents/guardians and students will receive a notification via Parent Square of their last opportunity to attend lunch detention if a student fails to attend lunch detention on the assigned day. Students who fail to attend lunch detention after two opportunities will be issued a disciplinary referral and assigned a 60 minute Administrative Detention. Students who habitually fail to attend tardy detentions may be referred to an assistant principal for formal school discipline.
