Students who are not inside their classroom before the second bell rings will be marked tardy. Students who arrive after 30 minutes from the start of the period will be marked absent for that period. Tardies can only be excused for the same legal reasons allowed for excused absences. Refer to the Excused & Unexcused Absences section of the Attendance Policies page.
TARDY = LUNCH DETENTION
Students who are not inside their classroom before the second bell rings will be marked Tardy. Students who arrive after 30 minutes from the start of the period will be marked Absent for that period. Tardies cannot be excused under any circumstances. Every period a student is tardy counts against their attendance for our "Rule of 85" eligibility calculation, so it is critical that all students do everything they can to be in class on time.
Tardy Consequences
If a student is Tardy to class, the teacher will mark them Tardy in our school attendance database. The teacher will then hand the student a tardy slip directing them to attend a 20-minute* lunch detention. Tardy students must immediately report to detention (room is indicated on the tardy slip) at the beginning of their lunch period to serve their detention. Student who do not show up for their lunch detention will be assigned a 1-hour after school Administrative Detention and accrue discipline demerits.
In addition to lunch detentions, each time a student accrues 10 tardies across all of their classes, they will be assigned Saturday School Detention. When a student reaches 40 tardies, the Dean of Learning Support will arrange a parent/guardian and student meeting scheduled to address the issue and to plan a more effective intervention.
