Welcome to the CTE Medical Science program! This is a two-year program for juniors and seniors to prepare students for the medical field and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Explore demos, medical skills, guest speakers, field trips, internships, and career prospects. Students will gain industry-recognized certifications and training in first aid, CPR, Stop the Bleed, and more. Passionate about healthcare and aiding others? Take Med Sci!
The principles covered throughout the course are universal to the foundation of medicine. In Med Sci 1, we will cover a range of topics and skills including, but not limited to medical career exploration, medical terminology, introduction to the human body, patient assessment, body systems, phlebotomy and bloodborne pathogens. In Med Sci 2, we cover advanced body systems, bioethics, pharmacology, and emergency medicine. This course is recommended for any student interested in therapeutic services (dentist, EMT, MD, veterinarian, etc.), diagnostic services (NP, CLT, PT), health informatics (MA, health IT, epidemiologist), support services, and biotechnology research and development (biochemist, pharmacologist, microbiologist, toxicologist).
Completers of the Career Technical Education (CTE) program typically have more experience and are more likely to be hired and accepted to programs post-high school than other students. Students who complete both Med Sci 1 and Med Sci 2 have an opportunity to earn college credit from Solano Community College for the EMS110 course.
